mr. alarm clock, we’ve got problems.

As my family and close friends know, I have no trouble falling asleep. I think we could probably have a fun little contest between family and fabs of who has more pictures of this exact thing.

But we don’t need to play that game. Moving on. So while I fall asleep on the couch almost every night occasionally, I also have big problems waking up. As my old roomies (both Amanda and Sarah) would attest to, I snooze my alarm clock every single morning and often for over an hour. When I was single, it wasn’t too terrible. I didn’t wake my roommates that often.

Now I’m married. And you’d think having an other half would help me get up on the first ring. Or even the second. The problem is JoMo does it tooooo! Nooooo!!! Now my habit and his habit have become our habit. And we can’t get out of bed. 

We’ve tried putting our phones on the other side of the room, in which case we’ll get out of bed, grab our phones, hit snooze and lie back down. We’ve tried using a real alarm clock (not our phones), but alas I have trust issues and still use my phone and the pattern continues.

So aside from all the “go to bed on time” or “eat better” or “have a routine” or any of those lifestyle adjustments that we try over and over – what alarm clocks are you using? What system do you have that gets you out of bed? Any good apps? Or are we just freaks of nature that can’t be helped?

it’s 2013.

It’s officially been 1 year and 3 weeks since the greatest wedding of all time (proven here) and our lives couldn’t be happier or fuller. Us Morgan’s have literally had so much change in these 386 days…we bought a house, gave it a face lift, trained and ran a half marathon, adopted 2 babies dogs, bought a car, started selling Norwex… Although JoMo might argue, we crave a busy, can’t-sit-still life.

Which brings me to what I hope to accomplish in 2013. JoMo and I made a list of goals on our honeymoon last year and I’m pleased to say we came out on top of almost every single one. And here are some of our family goals, as well as some of my own:

  1. Less TV, More Words (personal). Last summer, JoMo and I decided to give up cable. So far, I’ve only been able to fray (not cut) the cord of my TV obsession. This year, I need to continue to cut down on all the hours of mindless TV watching and get more words in my life. Words meaning books, blogs, articles, ANYTHING. With my new iPad Mini, I’ve already read half a book in these first few weeks.
  2. Be more creative (personal). This one is huge. The combination of buying a house, being on a tight decor budget and Pinterest have forced me to go DIY and become more creative. While DIY is a must in 2013, my big creative goals are starting continuing this blog and getting back into photography. It’s been several years since I took my first photo class and my sister-in-law (who’s stayed with her photo ed) is becoming an amazing photographer and frankly I’m jealous. It’s on the list.
  3. Continue to get healthy (family). 2012 meant training for and running our first marathon, JoMo becoming obsessed with CrossFit and us “going Paleo” for the first time. We made huge strides in our health and really enjoyed accomplishing such big goals together. We weren’t perfect all year and have fallen off the running and Paleo trains over the past few months, not to mention adding two active dogs to our pack – we’ve got to get back on the saddle.
  4. Simplify (family). In every sense of the word. One, we have a lot of stuff. Two, we continually try to organize and streamline our lives. Three, I have started selling amazing Norwex products that inherently simplify our lives. Four, we have a lot of stuff.

So here’s to 2013. Making goals. Three weeks into the year. Does it count that I wrote an Evernote about my goals on day 2 of 2013?
